Shri Shailesh Vagerwal

Shri Shailesh Vagerwal has assumed charge as Chairman & Managing Director of Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) with effect from 09 July 2026. A distinguished officer of the Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS), Shri Vagerwal brings with him nearly three decades of rich and diverse experience in defence manufacturing sector. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur.

Further, he pursued Master of Science degree in Explosive Ordnance Engineering from Cranfield University, United Kingdom. During his illustrious career in defence manufacturing, he has held several key positions at Ordnance Factory Dum Dum, Ordnance Factory Itarsi, Ordnance Factory Khamaria and Munitions India Limited, Corporate Office, Pune, a defence PSU.

Over the years, Shri Vagerwal has acquired extensive expertise in ammunition and explosives production, administration, strategic planning, material management, quality assurance, procurement of plant and machinery, project management, civil works, research and development, exports and business development, human resource management and industrial relations. Prior to joining BDL, he served as Chief General Manager at Ordnance Factory, Khamaria, Jabalpur, a unit of Munitions India Limited.
